RYAN’S STORY
Ryan Ladao is an award-winning writer and director recognized for his fearless exploration of the unsettling and the absurd. Known for his dark sense of humor and keen ability to connect with the psyche of his actors, he draws out performances that are both disturbingly raw and deeply human. His films blend psychological depth with transgressive imagery, creating stories that unnerve while provoking thought and, at times, an uncomfortable laugh. HOMUNCULUS is the latest expression of Ryan's bold vision—pushing boundaries at the intersection of grief, obsession, and grotesque creation. It’s the kind of movie that makes you laugh, squirm, and rethink breakfast eggs all at the same time.
RYAN’S ARTIST STATEMENT
The city of San Jose raised me—and I carry that Bay Area pride into everything I do (yes, even when it’s completely unnecessary).
With a background in the United States Air Force, I’ve learned how to adapt, overcome, and keep a level head under pressure—which comes in handy, because film sets have a way of turning plans into “creative problem-solving exercises.” When things go sideways, I stay calm and figure it out.
The military also taught me the importance of teamwork—how to communicate, collaborate, and support the people around you. I bring that same mindset to every set, also making sure the team has fun along the way.
With experience as a Director, Producer, and 1st AD, I’ve overseen productions from pre-production through post-production and beyond—doing my best to keep everything running smoothly… or at least making it look like I have everything under control.
At the end of the day, my goal in filmmaking is to inspire others, just as I’ve been inspired by so many creators. If something I create makes someone want to pick up a camera, tell a story, or just say “that was dope,” then I’d call that a win—and probably celebrate by drinking NA’s with Tristan.
Love,
