Your Questions, Answered

  • Standard turnaround for a Boutique Reel or Co-Star Split is 7–10 business days. This allows us time for a precision edit, professional sound mix, and a full DaVinci Resolve color grade. If you're in a rush, ask about our Priority Post add-on.

  • Absolutely. We love working with your original material. However, to maintain our Production Grade standards, we highly recommend scripts be 1.5 pages or less.

If you bring a 3+ page script:

    • We will film the session as scheduled.

    • Your final deliverable will be a 60-second 'Master Take.' > * If you need the 3 pages condensed into a high-impact 60-second industry asset, we recommend adding our Script Trim ($100) service to your booking.

  • Don't have a reader? No problem. We have a roster of Professional House Partners—vetted LA actors who are available to read and play opposite you for a small coordination fee.

For the Co-Star Split, we recommend bringing a partner you already have chemistry with.

  • Working with Gruff Studios is like being in a highly organized riot. We take the frame, the lighting, and the technical blueprint incredibly seriously—but we refuse to take ourselves that way. We believe that fun isn't just a byproduct of a good shoot; it’s the engine that powers the grit. Expect early call times, precision-engineered shot lists, and a production crew that will work until the sun goes down. We’re here to build something unique, and we’re going to have a ridiculous time doing it.

SELF-TAPES

  • We run a tight production schedule to keep costs low for everyone. If you need more time and the studio is available, we bill in 15-minute increments. However, we recommend prepping your sides in advance so we can spend the full 45 minutes on your performance.

  • We deliver a polished, edited, and slated high-definition file ready for submission. We don’t typically release raw, unedited files as they don't meet the Gruff Studios technical standard.

TECHNICAL & STYLE

  • It’s our genre-specific production tier. We swap standard "natural" lighting for high-contrast Chiaroscuro setups and add atmospheric sound "stings" and Pro Tools foley. It’s designed specifically for actors targeting the horror and thriller markets.

  • If you book The Total Rebrand, yes. We use the same cinematic lighting and color science for your stills as we do for your footage, ensuring your entire portfolio has a cohesive, high-end "film" look.

  • Avoid small, busy patterns (they "moire" on camera) and stark solid whites. Rich jewel tones, earth tones, and layers work best for our cinematic lighting. If you're doing a Slasher session, bring something you don't mind getting "distressed."

BOOKING & LOGISTICS

  • We are based in Los Angeles, specifically tailored for the local acting community. Exact studio directions are sent upon booking confirmation.

  • We require 48 hours' notice for cancellations to refund your deposit. Sessions rescheduled with less than 72 hours' notice may incur a re-stacking fee. See our full Refund & Cancelation Page for details.
